Pinecone IV by Martin Truefitt-Baker
I have produced a number of paintings of pinecones in the last few years. I have been fascinated by the whorl of spirals created by the individual 'pegs' and how the overall form of the cone is shown by the highlights and shadows.
The backgrounds have changed depending on the colours and aspects of the cone that I wish to bring out. This painting was produced in the early winter of 2017 when there was some snowfall on the hills. The fir trees are from the hillside behind my house.
It is painted on a deep '3D' canvas it could be framed but would not need it in many settings.
